Here’s the big misconception.
Teeth Whitening = Sensitive Teeth
While a small percentage of clients may experience slight teeth sensitivity after treatment, it generally only lasts between 24 to 48 hours and is a temporary effect.
If you have sensitive teeth, check out our guide here.
The main ingredient in most teeth whitening products is hydrogen peroxide.
In Australia, we have specific rules that ensure all practices look after their clients and their teeth with a limit of 6% hydrogen peroxide. Dental practitioners are the only ones who may use more than that.
The higher concentration of hydrogen peroxide, the higher chance of experiencing sensitivity. The difference in in-chair sessions, such as that with Smile Labs Parramatta compared to take-home kits is that we are careful to ensure that the gel only touches your teeth and not your gums as it can cause burns if not applied properly.
While you may see products that offer “peroxide-free” treatments, you should clarify what they actually contain. While they may state it is peroxide-free, the product may release hydrogen peroxide when activated, which have a minimal whitening effect.
Once you’ve had your teeth whitened, you aren’t required to regularly attend as often for a session, as the results can last around 3 to 4 months with the results fading gradually over time.
While our premium session is guaranteed to give you at least eight shades whiter teeth, one limitation is that veneers, crowns, fillings and any dental restorations won’t be able to go whiter than their initial colour.
