School holidays have either just started or are just around the corner. Either way, you’re probably wondering how you’re going to keep the kids occupied this summer. Because we’re a family here at Smile Labs Parramatta, and we understand that you don’t just want the kids watching TV the whole time, we’ll give you a few ideas that even you too would enjoy these holidays.
Art Gallery NSW
If you and the family love arts and crafts, be sure to head to the Art Gallery NSW these school holidays! The Art Gallery NSW is holding a workshop for children with specific needs where they can learn about and create crafts related to Japanese Folklore (January 22, 2020). They are also hosting a workshop to celebrate the Lunar New Year, which will be the Year of the Rat. (January 26 + February 2, 2020).
Luna Park Sydney
Luna Park Sydney is a well-known amusement park, but with a new ride this summer! To welcome the summer holidays, Luna Park has introduced a water-based ride called the Pirate’s Revenge! Purchase an unlimited pass and cool off this summer at Luna Park Sydney. The unlimited pass includes access to all the rides, including the new Pirate’s revenge, and when you’re done with the rides, you can continue the fun with free entry to North Sydney Pool!
Sea Life Sydney Aquarium
The awesome attraction for this year’s school holidays at Sea Life Sydney Aquarium is ‘Sharks of the Reef’! (Until January 31, 2020) Bring the kids to learn about the most misunderstood creatures of the sea. Explore the Shark Valley Tunnels and learn all sorts of fun facts about sharks! Rest assured, they’ll be more excited than terrified once they’ve got all the fun facts.
Sydney Opera House
If your kids are the musical type and love interactive shows, then the Sydney Opera House has live shows for all ages! Watch as some of your favourite storybooks come to life on stage! Some titles include Spot the dog, The Snail and the Whale, and The Midnight Gang (shows from mid-December 2019 – mid-January 2020). Have your kids also join the Junior Adventure Tour (January 6 – 26, 2020). There they can play interactive games and learn all about the inner workings of the Opera House!
Another family favourite is, of course, Taronga Zoo! Taronga Zoo is offering tons of activities for the family these school holidays. Watch animations, live shows or short films at the Taronga Centenary Centre. For the daredevils, try out the Wild Ropes. Go on suspension bridges, climbing walls and flying foxes! Don’t worry because there are courses for all ages, including the little ones. Then during the month of January, sign your kids (ages 5-10) up for the Zoo Adventure Program. This is an educational (but not boring) holiday program offered by Taronga Zoo where the kids can learn about various animals and the environments they live in. The program also includes animal encounters, animal shows, use of the playground and awesome missions!
The Big Bounce Australia
These school holidays, Australia welcomes the biggest inflatable fun park ever created! The Big Bounce Australia boasts the world’s largest jumping castle, as well as slides, ball pits, mazes and climbing walls! Everything is inflatable, so all ages are welcome! Bring the whole family and have a fun day out with this cool experience that everyone is sure to love (Arriving in Sydney on January 24 until February 9, 2020).
The Grounds of Alexandria
To celebrate the release of Frozen 2, The Grounds of Alexandria have transformed into a Frozen 2-inspired wonderland (Installation until January 29, 2020). Visit spots like the Enchanted Forest or Crystal Lane, and sample some of their delectable Frozen 2-inspired treats! And because Christmas is landing very soon, why not get your Santa photos taken at the Grounds? (Bookings essential) When you’re done, you can check out Snow Lane and experience a white Christmas in Australia! Other activities offered for both young and old include a candle and watercolour cards workshop. Be sure to also check out the Grounds on the weekend before Christmas (December 20 +21) and join in the Christmas Nights celebrations which include live entertainment, dancing and food installations. You’ll find that there’s something for everyone!
