New Rules for Weddings

If there’s one thing that Smile Labs Parramatta loves more than giving our clients a whiter and brighter smile, it’s weddings! Many of you would know that Smile Labs Parramatta is very active at wedding expos and we try to attend as many as we can throughout the year. Wedding expos are a great way for us to introduce what we do and meet some lovely couples along the way. Majority of our clients come from wedding expos, even if they’ve just gotten engaged or are already in the last stages of planning their wedding.

While teeth whitening may not have been something couples thought about before, its popularity has increased over the last couple of years. Couples have become more conscious about their smiles and some have even booked sessions for their whole wedding party!

COVID has put a bit of a damper on special occasions this year, but we are so happy to still have clients come in who are still getting married and celebrating anyway. In this blog post, we thought we’d give the current list of rules and restrictions regarding weddings in NSW. The celebration between two people who love each other is something the Smile Labs Parramatta team will always get behind.

According to weddings must:

  • Have a COVID-19 Safety plan

  • Register as COVID Safe

  • Have a maximum of 150 attendees (subject to the 4 square metre rule)

  • Have up to 20 people on the dance floor, but cannot have a rotation of people beyond the wedding party

  • Have attendees provide contact details

These rules are in place for a reason, so instead of feeling frustrated, find the upside to these rules and restrictions.

Weddings are celebrations, but sometimes a big celebration with a lot of guests can be overwhelming (and expensive!). 150 people seem like a reasonable number, big enough to invite friends and family, but small enough that the celebration is still intimate. People with big families can relate, but 150 allows for the friends and family you really want celebrating with you and not relatives you haven’t seen in over 5 years and have to invite out of obligation (we all have them!).

As for those 20 people allowed on the dance floor, have fun with it. Choose the people you know will slay and keep the party going even if there’s only 20 of you dancing. There are always guests who love to dance, so aside from your wedding party, choose the guests you’ll have fun with on the dance floor. 20 people can feel like a lot if the energy’s there.

If restrictions have gotten in the way of who you’ll have at your wedding, why not have a small, intimate ceremony instead? Have those people who are really close to you present at your wedding ceremony and then have a separate wedding reception down the track when restrictions have eased. An intimate wedding ceremony can be just as beautiful and special as one with a lot of guests present. We had a client come in recently who told us she had a COVID wedding, so she could only have family at the ceremony. With restrictions easing since lockdown, she is now having a wedding reception with friends and family who couldn’t be at the ceremony.

Planning a wedding can be stressful, COVID or no, so the important thing to remember is to be flexible. Plan around these restrictions and really look into the finer details of your wedding. Remember to take a breath and remember that you are planning one of the biggest and happiest moments of your life. Make the wedding yours and you might just forget the stress of these restrictions, at least for one day.

We’d love to hear if you had a COVID wedding or are planning one! Let us know what trials you had to go through and if these rules and restrictions even affected your wedding. If you are still on the way to getting married, pop in and talk to us about what packages we can offer you for your big day. We’re located on Macquarie St (inside Fitness First) walking distance from the station and Westfield Parramatta, open 6 days a week, and we take after work bookings.
